Think back to a time in your relationship with your son that you were most proud of him, or maybe more than a few instances. Describe why and how his behavior, comments, decision-making or accomplishments made you happy to be his father.

Unlike the past when expectant fathers paced outside the birthing room, more fathers today are there to witness the birth of their newborn. Share your thoughts about becoming a father in that moment and starting a new phase in your own life.

Holidays

Families celebrate holidays in many different ways, and many have their own traditions. What are some of the past holidays, family gatherings and special events that you remember that involved a memorable interaction with your son?

Aspirations

Every father has his own aspirations for his son, expectations of becoming a mature and disciplined adult, a responsible citizen and positive contributor to society. How has your son met any of your expectations and offer words of encouragement.

One effective written communication strategy is to keep your thoughts, comments and observations positive. The best way to make a fruitful connection between father and son is to focus on the positive, avoid negative comments and recognize that no person is perfect. Once committed to paper and delivered, a father's words will live on and have a far-reaching impact on your relationship. Regardless of the status of the relationship or the place your son happens to be at the moment, a father's message should emphasize any and all aspects that are positive and not be condemning or critical.
